All-Purpose Woman

“All-purpose” is a very interesting word, isn’t it? I looked it up in the dictionary: “suited for many purposes or uses” it says. There are “All-purpose cleaners” that are meant to clean everything. Ha! The only thing that cleans EVERYTHING is ME!

As I was working on this post last night, a funny thing happened. I sent out my daughter to retrieve fishsticks from our up-right freezer. She reported that there was a “rotten meat” smell and “blood dripping down the freezer”. Well, my head went down knowing what had happened. The door was left open. I do not know for how long, but the fact that there was a “smell” was a good indicator to the “length of time” being TOO long.

Of course, in the middle of this, our new puppy decides to “help” by leaving a wonderful deposit on the kitchen floor. My 18-month-old son is screaming at the top of his lungs because he wants to “help” but is “quarantined” by a chair. The phone is ringing. Probably some telemarketer wanting to “help” me, too.

It definitely is a “Calgon take me away” moment. And for a few minutes, I am overwhelmed with the task and my ability to fix IT and all the other ones that have been added to IT. I need to be a maid, refrigerator repairman, health inspector, infectious control monitor, attentive mom, drill sergeant, and head of household. I pray.

Something kicks in! God pushed my “All-Purpose” button! Solutions start filling my head. The food starts getting thrown away, the freezer gets cleaned, the puppy’s “deposit” is taken care of, my baby gets held and loved, and the phone eventually gets answered. Everyone and everything is back to normal, cleaned and/or loved. I pray again, thanking the One who holds me together, not only for me, but also for the people who need me. I pray and thank the One who helps me be an “All-Purpose” woman.

Let’s hear from you! Share your “All-Purpose Woman” moment.
